Privacy Policy — Demo Unity Parent App

Demo Unity Parent App is the demonstration build of the Walnut School parent app, published by Walnut School. It is provided to parents and guardians of enrolled students. This policy explains what the app accesses, why, and who it is shared with.

Information we handle

  • Account information. The mobile number or user ID issued by the school, used to sign in. Accounts are created by the school; the app does not allow public registration.
  • Student records. Information the school already holds about your child — name, class and division, attendance, curriculum progress, examination results, fee dues, timetable, and transport route and stop assignment.
  • Photos and documents you choose to upload. Only files you explicitly select, for purposes such as absent notes or certificate requests.
  • Push notification token. A device identifier issued by Google Firebase, used solely to deliver school notices to your device.
  • Basic device and diagnostic information. App version and device model, used to investigate errors.

Location

This app does not collect, request, or access your device's location. It requests no location permission. The school bus position shown on the transport screen is reported by the school's own vehicle tracking system and sent to your device for display only. Nothing about where you or your device are is collected.

Device permissions

  • Camera — only when you choose to capture an image to share with the school.
  • Photos and files — only when you choose to attach or download a document.

Both are used only at the moment you initiate the action. Neither is accessed in the background.

How information is used

Solely to provide the app's functions: delivering school communication, showing your child's academic and attendance information, enabling fee payment, and displaying the school bus on its route. We do not use this information for advertising, and we do not sell it.

Service providers

  • Google Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivery of push notifications.
  • Google Maps — rendering the map on the transport screen.
  • Amazon Web Services — hosting the vehicle location service.
  • Expo — application build and update delivery.

These providers process data only to deliver the functions above.

Data retention and security

Student records are retained by the school for as long as the student is enrolled, in line with the school's records policy. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access is restricted to the parent or guardian linked to that student.

Children's privacy

This app is intended for use by parents and guardians, not by children. Information about students is provided by the school to the parent or guardian associated with that student's record.

Your rights

To review, correct, or request deletion of information held about you or your child, contact the school office. Records maintained by the school as part of a student's enrolment are governed by the school's own records policy.

Changes

Any change to this policy will be published on this page with a revised date.
